Portraits

These photos were the best because of lighting and the angles seemed to really flatter her face. I learned how to get someone into the position I want them to- communication.

Action Shots

I used some fast shutter speed, and other photos I used slow shutter speed. Fast shutter speed helped with things I wanted to freeze in motion, like water droplets. I used really slow shutter speed for the night photo with the lake and mountains. It helped show the reflection on the lake, and we could see the mountain in the photo. The clouds and mountains weren't visible with the naked eye.

David Hockney Photo Collage

This assignment was a lot of fun! I was stressed at first because it looks really hard, but once i did it I realized it's not hard at all. I took some photos with a flash and others without.  I chose this subject because I thought it would make the flowers look so much less boring.  I learned how to resize the transparent canvas.

Black & White Photography

This image is better in black and white because it makes it more dramatic.  This image makes me feel like I'm trying to figure something out; it's almost mysterious.  My subject is enhanced with black & white because it really makes her face and expression pop.
This photo is better in black & white because it really focuses on the subject. Before, the subject was kind of lost, but now the viewers eye goes straight to the subject.  This image makes me feel happy because it has kind of a charismatic feel to it.
This image is better in black & white because the back lighting kind of hid the subject, but the black & white helped make the subject more noticeable.  This image makes me feel happy mostly because there are good memories behind it, and the person look happy.
This image is better in black & white because it definitely makes it more interesting. It makes me feel curious and happy because i love the rain, and also the black & white effect makes the viewer wonder what was going on behind the image.
This image is better in black & white because it definitely makes the subject pop.  This image makes the viewer feel happy because of the way the lighting is shining on the subject.
(fyi- I know I have already taken these photos and posted them in color, but i am currently on vacation & don't have time to take new photos)

Light & Exposure

I learned a lot this week taking different photos with different lighting. I figured out that artificial lighting should be a last resource because it does not look well in most situations. I also figured out that you can really change a photo's appearance with the lighting.

Side Lighting
Back Lighting
Hard Lighting
Soft Lighting

Camera Modes

Auto
Auto was good for this situation because my subject would move around from shade, to bright sunlight, and then inside the house. This helped me be able to capture the image I wanted without having to change my settings every ten seconds.
Shutter Speed (S)
The shutter speed setting was good for this picture because my subject was moving. The cat kept running away so it was very difficult getting a clear image without using a high shutter speed.
Manual (M)
I wanted to use manual for this shot because I basically wanted to chose everything. The lighting was tricky, so I wanted it bright enough, but I also wanted to choose how much I wanted in focus. Using manual helped me do what I want with my image.
Macro
I used macro for this photo because I only wanted so much in focus. The background behind the bench was very cluttered so I wanted to blur it out as much as I could. Macro mode helped me focus in on a small object.
Portrait
I used portrait for this photo obviously because I was taking a photo of a person (; Using portrait helped make the person's skin tone a little smoother, and it blurred the background pretty well.

Panorama

Panorama
I did my best on this, but it didn't turn out well at all. I don't know how to get the lines to not be as visible...
